To everyone
who has written to Larry and me about the fire that went through our home..
Thank you! For you prayers and kind WORDS of encouragement! So many of you have told me of fires happening in your lives and as much as I
feel so overloaded with the fear that I'll never rebuild my life, you have all
given me hope by telling me your stories.
I know that when a door closes a window opens. I have to look out the window
and see the new future.
Starting Over 2004 through 2010. My new goals!!
I also know that every material possession that I lost can be replaced. I have
suffered TWO losses that couldn't be replaced. So I guess by comparison. A
fire is a piece of cake!!
The photos of my family were spared from the flames. The flag that was given to
me when my Aunt was buried in Arlington National Cemetery was spared. The flames were
everywhere and they didn't burn the flag. A fireman saw it and slipped it in
his jacket, because he felt it had cherished memories. He came
downstairs and handed it to me with tears in his eyes. Our American flag was
spared. A miracle, for sure.
I left the condo and was on the way downstairs when I realized that my Grandson
Danny's parakeet "SPOT" was still in the house. I ran back and
rescued him...so there I was running down 12 flights of stairs carrying a
birdcage. He's a happy bird today, but Danny is happier.
Larry was the first to notice the fire. He pulled the alarms in the hall,
alerted the neighbors on the floor and got Elsie and I out safely. The
fireman that was as the homeowners meeting a few nights later said that he
was a level headed hero.
Of course, we are under insured. So everyone PLEASE do yourselves a favor and
call your agents and make sure you understand what your coverage is and get
proper insurance.
The living room is a total loss. Nothing survived, the walls
and ceilings are black and the furniture is gone. The rest of the house
has MAJOR smoke and water damage.
My clutter problem has been solved. Now I have the rest of my life to
accumulate MORE clutter. What a challenge!!! I bet I can do it in no time.
My socks are still safe. Everything in the drawers is just smoky and a
spin in the washer will get the smell out. My dolls are okay. The vintage
purses are okay...and a lot of other things are still salvageable.
For those of you who knew that Cassie spent the summer at our house. I
want you all to know that she's been in Philadelphia since the 4th of August and will be
leaving for Europe on Sunday. Her stuff is fine
because it was in the room that had the least amount of damage, As soon as we
are back in our rebuilt home, she'll be back with us and a commuting
student. Having her at our home was joyful for Larry and me. She is sweetie
pie. A wonderful addition to our lives.
So thank you all from the bottom of our hearts. Your words of kindness are
the best medicine to see us through this.

sign the guestbook or send me an email at molaughter@comcast.com . I'd love to
hear from everyone.
Our laptop
survived. Hopefully the hard drive on the big computer can be restored. I think
I may have lost all my saved mail (I saved every piece) and addresses from all
of you. The fingers are crossed that it isn't lost. Most everything in the
computer MELTED.
Oh another thing that is amazing. Our 50 inch big screen TV was about a
foot high after the fire was out. All the plastic stuff that melted could
be an installation art exhibit. Wish I had someplace to have saved and store
some of the more interesting pieces. Or would that have been the beginning
of the clutter syndrome??
Hugs, love, kisses and bless you,
Maureen
